Artist, Illustrator, Traveller.
In the early 1980s I completed a foundation course at Loughborough college of Art, followed by a degree there in Fine Art, specialising in sculpture.
After moving to London and exhibiting at the ‘Blackheath Gallery’ I was introduced to the world of illustration. It was through the sale of one of my paintings that I met Sebastian Walker who had just started a publishing firm specialising in Children’s books.
I was then invited to illustrate for Sebastian and went on to complete a series of books for them.
As well as the natural landscape, my paintings are influenced by my travels in India, my love of magical childhood stories, and poetry.
These days I paint every available day and I am passionate about what I do. I love the progression from an initial idea to the strength and vivacity of a final painting.
If you have a particular occasion or event you wish to mark, I also take commissions.
My inspiration
In my paintings I reflect this visual influence with colourful, decorated cows, cats and birds surrounded by a background of patterns and the brightly coloured Indian textiles.
From Poetry... Since childhood I have loved poetry and rhymes, from classic nursery rhymes to words of depth and meaning.
I always have a visual image as I read the words and this has materialised into paintings that also reflect my interest in birds and animals.
From Proverbs...I always found proverbs to be magical and unusual - especially loving the ones with animals in.
This series of paintings reflects my interest in proverbs and again, this comes from my childhood - especially with the more familiar rhymes such as 'One for Sorrow, Two for Joy'. I still salute a Magpie if I see one!
